Staying Cool When Things Get Hot

Greg Laurie 9-19-2013
Daniel 1

Jeremiah 25:8-9 (NIV)
Therefore the Lord Almighty says this: “Because you have not listened to my words, [9] I will summon all the peoples of the north and my servant Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon,” declares the Lord, “and I will bring them against this land and its inhabitants and against all the surrounding nations. I will completely destroy them and make them an object of horror and scorn, and an everlasting ruin.

Daniel 1:8 (NIV)
But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way.

Romans 14:23 (NIV)
But whoever has doubts is condemned if they eat, because their eating is not from faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin.

We should not be seeking happiness, we should be seeking holiness.

A little with God is better than much without him.

Daniel 2:47 (NIV)
The king said to Daniel, “Surely your God is the God of gods and the Lord of kings and a revealer of mysteries, for you were able to reveal this mystery. ”

Daniel 3:14-18 (NIV)
and Nebuchadnezzar said to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the image of gold I have set up? [15] Now when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe and all kinds of music, if you are ready to fall down and worship the image I made, very good. But if you do not worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace. Then what god will be able to rescue you from my hand?” [16] Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. [17] If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. [18] But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up. ”

Isaiah 43:2 (NIV)

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

For Such a Time as This

Pastor Greg Laurie
September 15, 2013
Esther 1 and 2

1. We all have talents that we can use for God

We do not believe in coincidence, we believe in providence.

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIrV)
"I know the plans I have for you," announces the Lord. "I want you to enjoy success. I do not plan to harm you. I will give you hope for the years

1 Timothy 4:14 (NIV)
Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you. to come.

2. There is a time to speak up and a time to be quiet.

Esther 2:10 (NIV)
Esther had not revealed her nationality and family background, because Mordecai had forbidden her to do so.

Esther 4:10-11 (NIV)
Then she instructed him to say to Mordecai, [11] “All the king’s officials and the people of the royal provinces know that for any man or woman who approaches the king in the inner court without being summoned the king has but one law: that they be put to death unless the king extends the gold scepter to them and spares their lives. But thirty days have passed since I was called to go to the king.”

Esther 4:12-14 (NIV)
When Esther’s words were reported to Mordecai, [13] he sent back this answer: “Do not think that because you are in the king’s house you alone of all the Jews will escape. [14] For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”

3. Has God placed you where you are for such a time as this?

Esther 4:15-16 (NIV)
Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai: [16] “Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.”

4. Our lives belong to God.

Listen to God and ask for his guidance.

We are here for such a time as this!!!!!
The the prayer that changes things is the prayer that is offered to God.
The the prayer that changes things is the prayer that is offered to God.

Pray to God - get me to do what God wants me to do. Alignment with Him. He only answers prayers which are inspired by God.

If we don't put our heart into our prayers God will not put his heart into our prayers.

Breaking Camp

9-12-13 Levi Lusko
Harvest OC Thursday

Isaiah 38:12 (NIV)
Like a shepherd’s tent my house has been pulled down and taken from me. Like a weaver I have rolled up my life, and he has cut me off from the loom; day and night you made an end of me.

2 Corinthians 5:1 (NIV)
For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.

CS Lewis, "you are a soul and you have a body"

Our earthly house gets destroyed.

Old tents are like old bodies. The longer we are in them the more beat up they are.

What goes up must come down.

Hebrews 9:27 (NIV)
Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,

Tents are fragile, vulnerable and temporary.

Psalm 39:1-13 (NIV)
“Show me, Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is. [5] You have made my days a mere hand breadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Everyone is but a breath, even those who seem secure. [6] “Surely everyone goes around like a mere phantom; in vain they rush about, heaping up wealth without knowing whose it will finally be. [7] “But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you. [8] Save me from all my transgressions; do not make me the scorn of fools. [9] I was silent; I would not open my mouth, for you are the one who has done this. [10] Remove your scourge from me; I am overcome by the blow of your hand. [11] When you rebuke and discipline anyone for their sin, you consume their wealth like a moth---surely everyone is but a breath. [

1 Thessalonians 4:16 (NIV)
For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

When you leave the tent you get to go home.

Heaven is "far better"

Psalm 116:15 (NIV)
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his faithful servants.

Levi's favorite two word phrase in the bible is "Take Heart"- to take is deliberate.

The house has got what the tent does not.

Running with Horses (Cue the Eagles)

Pastor Levi Lusko
Jeremiah 12
September 8, 2013

Jeremiah was from Judah.

Sin always brings weakness.

If your faith isn't working in your home then it isn't working.

1. You ain't seen nothing yet. Jeremiah 12:5 (KJV)
If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee , then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?

Jeremiah didn't need to be cuddled, he needed to be challenged. Just like us.

God increases our threshold for pain, he doesn't decrease our suffering.

2. Opposition escalates with opportunity.

3. Train for the trial your not yet in.

If you knew a trial was coming on a certain date, how would that affect you?

Right now you are in training, you just don't know what for.

Storms reveal foundations, it is not a good time to lay one.

4. God puts to use, what He puts you through.

He catches your tears in a bottle.

Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV)
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord , thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

5. Your strength will fail.

Horses are faster than people, you will fail if you try to run with them.

Isaiah 40:28-31 (NIV)

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. [29] He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. [30] Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; [31] but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
