Judah Smith at Saddleback

Notes: Pastor Judah Smith at Saddleback
June 1st 2013

Romans 5:20 (NLT)
God's law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God's wonderful grace became more abundant.

Romans 5:20 (NKJV)
Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more,

Matthew 9:9 (NKJV)
As Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, "Follow Me." So he arose and followed Him.

God is a guarantee of protection.

Mark 16:7 (NLT)

Now go and tell his disciples, including Peter, that Jesus is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there, just as he told you before he died."

The Legacy of a Life

Pastor Greg Laurie
May 16, 2013

Elijah knew God and a man of prayer. Prayer in private was his source of power in public.

Elijah faithfully delivered the message he was given to deliver even though is was a sad message to deliver.

1 Kings 19:19-21 (NKJV)
So he departed from there, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he was with the twelfth. Then Elijah passed by him and threw his mantle on him. [20] And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah, and said, "Please let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you." And he said to him, "Go back again, for what have I done to you?" [21] So Elisha turned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen and slaughtered them and boiled their flesh, using the oxen's equipment, and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he arose and followed Elijah, and became his servant.

Everything we go through in life is perpetration for something else.

He was a man who had low moments too.

Matthew 28:19-20 (NKJV)
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, [20] teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.

Older believers should find younger believers and younger believers need to find an older believer to talk to.

John 4:35 (NKJV)
Do you not say, 'There are still four months and then comes the harvest'? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!

Ministry is everywhere!

Work where you are, faithful in the little things will lead you to great things.

Luke 9:62 (NKJV)
But Jesus said to him, "No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God."

References leaving a family reunion is hard to do and takes time. Buying time.

1 John 5:3 (NKJV)
For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.

2 Kings 2:9-12 (NKJV)
And so it was, when they had crossed over, that Elijah said to Elisha, "Ask! What may I do for you, before I am taken away from you?" Elisha said, "Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me." [10] So he said, "You have asked a hard thing. Nevertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall not be so." [11] Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. [12] And Elisha saw it, and he cried out, "My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and its horsemen!" So he saw him no more. And he took hold of his own clothes and tore them into two pieces.

What kind of legacy are you leaving today?

Happily Even After

Notes: Happily Even After
Several Services in May and June 2013
Pastor Greg
Harvest OC

James 1:19-20 (NKJV)
So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; [20] for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

This is a good phrase. I like it.

Proverbs 15:18 (NKJV)
A wrathful man stirs up strife, But he who is slow to anger allays contention.

Proverbs 15:18 (NLT)
A hot-tempered person starts fights; a cool-tempered person stops them.

Ephesians 4:26 (NKJV)
"Be angry, and do not sin": do not let the sun go down on your wrath,

Colossians 3:1-15 (NKJV)
If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. [2] Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. [3] For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. [4] When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. [5] Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. [6] Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, [7] in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them. [8] But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. [9] Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, [10] and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, [11] where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all. [12] Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; [13] bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. [14] But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. [15] And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.

1 Peter 3:1-4 (NKJV)
Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives, [2] when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied by fear. [3] Do not let your adornment be merely outward-arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel- [4] rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.

1. Women should be the best women they should be.

Being sloppy and unkempt is not a virtue.

2. Respect your man

Ephesians 5:3 (NKJV)
But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints;

Wives need love and husbands need respect!

3. Submit to the leadership of your husband.
Galatians 3:28 (NKJV)
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Colossians 3:18 (NKJV)
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.

4. Win without a word. Live the gospel.

Proverbs 19:13 (NKJV)
A foolish son is the ruin of his father, And the contentions of a wife are a continual dripping.

Proverbs 21:19 (NKJV)
Better to dwell in the wilderness, Than with a contentious and angry woman.

June 16 Fathers Day

Ephesians 6:4 (NLT)
Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.

Start with manners. Be respectful to others.

We are not sinners because we sin; we sin because we are sinners.

We cannot teach through us until it has happened to us.

Deuteronomy 6:6-7 (NKJV)
"And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.
[7] You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.

Successful Marriages require:

1.There must be a leaving and a cleaving.

2. Husbands and wives are to submit one to the other.

3. You must be filled with the Holy Spirit again and again and again.

4. The husband must love his wife as Christ loves the church.
Husbands must be the spiritual leaders of the family.

Proverbs 31:28 (NKJV)
Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her:

5. Wives must respect and submit to their husband.

6. Communication must be constant. 86% of divorces blame communication.

James 1:19 (NKJV)
So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;

Ephesians 4:31-32 (NKJV)
Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. [32] And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

A successful marriage consist of two good forgivers. - Ruth Graham

Fight to resolve not to win.

Ephesians 6:4 (NKJV)
And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.

Bring them up in the training and admiration of The Lord.

Proverbs 29:15 (NKJV)
The rod and rebuke give wisdom, But a child left to himself brings shame to his mother.

Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV)
Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.

Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV)
Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.

Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV)
Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.

Put parameters in place in the home. Things kids can and can not do. Discipline needs to be in place. Loved kids are disciplined. No discipline is enjoyable!

1 Samuel 3:11-13 (NKJV)
Then the LORD said to Samuel: "Behold, I will do something in Israel at which both ears of everyone who hears it will tingle. [12] In that day I will perform against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from beginning to end. [13] For I have told him that I will judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knows, because his sons made themselves vile, and he did not restrain them.

Because God loves us he disciplines us.

Sinning with abandon and no discipline from God could mean you are not a child of God.

Dads have the job of getting their kids to heaven!

Come, Lord Jesus!

Pastor Greg Laurie
Sunday 5/5/2013

Revelation 1:19 (NLT)
"Write down what you have seen-both the things that are now happening and the things that will happen.

Revelation 1:19 (NKJV)
Write the things which you have seen, and the things which are, and the things which will take place after this.

The outline of the book of Revelation, the only book that has one.

Revelation 22:7 (NLT)
"Look, I am coming soon! Blessed are those who obey the words of prophecy written in this book."

1. Keep the words of the Bible.

2. Read it out loud.

3. Keep the words.

Revelation 22:6 (NLT)
Then the angel said to me, "Everything you have heard and seen is trustworthy and true. The Lord God, who inspires his prophets, has sent his angel to tell his servants what will happen soon."
1. Every word of the bible are reliable.

2. We must do his work.

Double blessed are the persecuted. When you are persecuted wear it as a badge of honor. Don't be weary in praying for your family and country and all. Never get tired in what you are doing.

If you sow of the flesh you will reap corruption if you sow of the spirit you will reap life everlasting

Revelation 22:11 (NLT)
Let the one who is doing harm continue to do harm; let the one who is vile continue to be vile; let the one who is righteous continue to live righteously; let the one who is holy continue to be holy."

Revelation 22:18 (NLT)
And I solemnly declare to everyone who hears the words of prophecy written in this book: If anyone adds anything to what is written here, God will add to that person the plagues described in this book.

Do not stray from the word of God. Do not disobey. Do not disregard it, twist it or change it.

The devil quoted the Bible to Jesus, changing it to suit him.

Revelation 22:17 (NLT)
The Spirit and the bride say, "Come." Let anyone who hears this say, "Come." Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life.

Jesus used the word Come a lot. Inviting all to go to Him.

We are all thirsty and hungry for God.
