Getting Started Week 2

Getting Started Chapter 2
Matthew 16:18 (NLT)
Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means 'rock'), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer.

Colossians 1:18 (NLT)
Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So he is first in everything.

Ephesians 1:22-23 (NLT)
God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. [23] And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.

Ephesians 5:29-30 (NLT)
No one hates his own body but feeds and cares for it, just as Christ cares for the church. [30] And we are members of his body.

Acts 2:1-4 (NLT)
On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. [2] Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. [3] Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. [4] And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.

Acts 2:42-47 (NLT)
All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord's Supper), and to prayer. [43] A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. [44] And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. [45] They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. [46] They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord's Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity- [47] all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.

Ephesians 4:11-16 (NLT)
Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. [12] Their responsibility is to equip God's people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. [13] This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God's Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ. [14] Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won't be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. [15] Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. [16] He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.

Points passages:
1. We come to church to be equipped.
2. We come to church to be built up and to build up other.
3. We come for unity and fellowship with brethren.
4. We come to church to serve God.

Hebrews 10:24-25 (NLT)
Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. [25] And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

1 Corinthians 12:24-26 (NLT)
while the more honorable parts do not require this special care. So God has put the body together such that extra honor and care are given to those parts that have less dignity. [25] This makes for harmony among the members, so that all the members care for each other. [26] If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad.

Romans 12:4-8 (NLT)
Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, [5] so it is with Christ's body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other. [6] In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. [7] If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. [8] If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.

2 Timothy 2:15 (NLT)
Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.

Revival in Our Time?

Jonah Ch 3 and 4
Aug 11, 2013

God punished Jonah out of love not out of anger.

1. Gods chastening is out of his love for his children.

Revival starts with me. Nothing can happen through me until it has happened to me.

Jonah 3:3-10

Pray for the wicked by name, God can save them.

2. We need to attempt great things for God and expect great things from God.

Psalm 85:6 (KJV)
Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?

Habakkuk 3:2 (KJV)
O Lord , I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O Lord , revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.

Revival is a new beginning of obedience to God.

Revival is for believers only.

Acts 26:28 (KJV)
Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.

There are a lot of "almost" Christians.

Jonah 4:1-11

Jonah was burning with anger that God spared the Ninavites.

Luke 15: 28-32

Unstoppable Friends

August 8 2013
Start Rally with Jack Hibbs

1. Unstoppable friends for those who don't know Jesus.

Spreading the word to your friends and family needs to come from love not duty.

2. Do you love your friends enough to be inconvenienced or in trouble over standing up for faith.

Mark 2:1-12 (NKJV)
And again He entered Capernaum after some days, and it was heard that He was in the house. [2] Immediately many gathered together, so that there was no longer room to receive them, not even near the door. And He preached the word to them. [3] Then they came to Him, bringing a paralytic who was carried by four men. [4] And when they could not come near Him because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where He was. So when they had broken through, they let down the bed on which the paralytic was lying. [5] When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven you." [6] And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, [7] "Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?" [8] But immediately, when Jesus perceived in His spirit that they reasoned thus within themselves, He said to them, "Why do you reason about these things in your hearts? [9] Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven you,' or to say, 'Arise, take up your bed and walk'? [10] But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins"-He said to the paralytic, [11] "I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house." [12] Immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went out in the presence of them all, so that all were amazed and glorified God, saying, "We never saw anything like this!"

Matthew 28:19 (NKJV)
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

3. Activate your faith like you mean it.
Put it to work.

4. Jesus calls us to do something greater. God has given you the mission to tell others the Gospel, Not to raise the dead.

Mark 1:16-18 (NKJV)
And as He walked by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. [17] Then Jesus said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men." [18] They immediately left their nets and followed Him.

Acts 1:6-8 (NKJV)
Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, "Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?" [7] And He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. [8] But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."

John 9:4 (NKJV)

I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work.

How to Lead Others to Christ

Harvest August 1, 2013
John 4

1. We are to go into all the world and preach the gospel.

2. We are to preach it everywhere.

3. Gods way to reach people is through people. We don't want people to go to hell.

4. You are to preach the gospel all the time.

5. How are we to do this.

1. We need to go to wherever, to whosoever, whenever God directs me.

2. We need to use tact.
"Tact is the art of making a point without making an enemy." Sir Isaac Newton

Start a conversation, ask about themselves, it's their favorite subject.

We needs a tactful, friendly, engaging approach.

Jesus often answered a question with a question.

Tell your story. The personal testimony, no one can argue what God has done for me.

Your story is a powerful bridge for the gospel message.

1. Don't glorify or exaggerate your past.

Telling your story is all about getting to His story.

"Would you like to accept Jesus Christ right now?"

Acts 2:37-38 (NLT)
Peter's words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, "Brothers, what should we do?" [38] Peter replied, "Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 28:19-20 (NLT)
Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. [20] Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

We are first to be disciples of Jesus and then to disciple others and repeat the process.

You need the outlet as much as someone else needs the input.

Daniel 12:3 (NLT)

Those who are wise will shine as bright as the sky, and those who lead many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever.
